Anaerobic Digester Bucket (customer supplies bucket)
This is a set of components for making a small garden sized anaerobic digester with drainage mechanism for easy release of liquid leachate. This is ideal when converting kitchen scraps or grass clippings to a liquid fertilizer.
By soaking biomass of green organic matter in a non-aerated water bucket, the biomass will ferment quickly, releasing a fruity smelling leachate of carbon and nitrogen rich organic extract. Such an extract is high in ammonia and in carbon making it suitable for dilution and direct application to microbe rich soils.
When using in soilless systems, it is important to reduce this liquid to a low carbon solution that may be produced using a vortex aerator and biofilter (Nutricycler). This process burns the extra carbon and converts the turbid anaerobic liquid into a fresh odor, low carbon liquid that will not build up biofilm in soilless grow beds. The carbon solids were removed in the biofiltration process of the aerating Nutricycler.
This is a simple process and ideal for making a concentrated liquid from the biomasses that are typically composted or disposed of through the municipal trash collection or kitchen disposal. Why waste these important nutrients when they can easily be captured and redistributed to the garden via a water hose or bucket.
The final nutrient reduced solids may be transferred to your compost pile providing a good C:N ratio for earthworms. Because composts tend to lose a lot of nutrients over the long cycle required to decompose using dry methods, the compost created from this will be ideal, as all compost as a field dressing for your garden.
For a most concentrated liquid fertilizer, select from our Primordial Soup Dry Blends – these biomass mixtures are optimized for NPK plant growing needs.
